Adding live plants to your home’s décor will update any space. With so many houseplants to choose from, you can undoubtedly find ones to complement your style, inject a pop of color for a design refresh, and create a welcoming atmosphere for your family members and guests. If you’re ready to add some green and life into your home but don’t want to invest too much time, consider the following easy-to-maintain plants:

Low supervision needed

Sometimes it’s hard enough to tend to daily chores even when you’re home, but it’s impossible when you’re away or traveling. If you regularly travel for work or enjoy vacations far from home but still want a plant to enjoy when you’re schedule allows, pick a snake plant. The plant goes by a couple monikers including ribbon plant and mother-in-law’s tongue, notes HGTV.com. This succulent is a hardy option for people who are often out of the house.

“It loves being potbound and thrives on being ignored — the perfect plant for two-week vacationers,” according to HGTV.com.

Lucky one

A cool looking plant that may add a bit of luck into your life without much fuss is a great pick for your houseplant menagerie. Dracaena, or lucky bamboo, offers a lot of variety and a touch of whimsy to your home décor.

“Lucky bamboo is often grown in water, but once substantial roots have formed, it is much happier planted in soil,” according to Marie Iannotti, writer for TheSpruce.com. “Even if allowed to wilt, dracaena will spring back after watering, although the leaf tips might turn brown.”

Pretty purifier

If you want a plant that has the potential to create new plants so you can fill every room of your house, then check out the easy-to-grow spider plant. Monique Valeris and Katarina Avendaño, writers for GoodHousekeeping.com, categorize this bright green plant with spiky-shaped leaves as the best purifying indoor plant.

“The fast-growing shoots produce little ‘babies’ that you can re-pot for added greenery elsewhere. Just stick to well-lit spots, and don’t forget weekly watering,” they add.

Soothing properties

A spiky look, a lush green hue, and potentially healing properties set the aloe vera plant apart from other houseplants. It gives off vacation-vibes, creating a calming effect every time you look at it. Plus, it’s a low maintenance plant that needs minimal attention.

“Aloe vera is best known for its plump leaves that can provide a soothing gel for cuts and burns,” according to the experts at HGTV.com. “Allow the plant’s soil to dry completely in between waterings; depending on the humidity of your home that may mean watering as little as every two to three weeks.”

Tall and strong

If you want a more substantial plant for your home, take a look at the rubber plant or ficus elastica. Its bold, big, and smooth leaves will infuse substantial color into your room, and its potential to reach 10 feet tall can perfectly fill a corner.

“Its care needs to remain healthy indoors include adequate light, moisture, and warmth. Put it several feet away from a window with a southern or eastern exposure. This plant likes moist (but not soggy) soil and fertilizer to keep it healthy,” Iannotti advises.

With these low maintenance plants, you can add life to your home’s décor and enjoy a bit of the outdoors year-round.
